Dear Street Wisdom
We often get lots of lovely feedback from Street Wisdom Walkshop participants. This one was so special, we asked Angie if we could re-post it here for others to enjoy. Thank you Angie and if you’d like to tell us your Street Wisdom story, get in touch with us!
Dear Street Wisdom
Thanks for a wonderful Street Wisdom Walkshop today. I thoroughly enjoyed it - it was great to experience one of the Walkshops first hand.
I particularly liked the ‘slow down’ warm up - more of that needed my life.
My question was “how can I communicate with more clarity so that I am heard?”. Having done the warm up exercises in our lovely garden looking at the emerging crocuses, I decided to walk around the village. I started walking up a path I’ve never been up, and turned round to come back as it went into a housing estate.
Then my phone battery got low, so I reluctantly had to walk back to the office to charge it. Then, I went back out into the garden and spotted many things that I hadn’t noticed before - including a lovely pottery jug propped up in the branches of the fig tree. I was curiously drawn to the compost bin and pieces of wood nearby that had been taken out of the chapel when we renovated - ready to be repurposed in the garden as ‘features’.
My learnings were:
The answer is close to home not ‘out there’. Notice what’s on your doorstep. Sometimes you need to go back to where you started to find what you’re looking for.
My habits are quite fixed - and I should go out of my comfort zone (eg. take the path I initially resisted with the thought ‘I’d rather walk somewhere greener’). What learnings did I miss by doing that? I also took from this that my communication habits are quite fixed and perhaps I need a shake up - or reframing.
Maybe having to take my phone back to the office was a sign that to really be in the moment and connect, I need to not have my phone on me. So, I’m looking forward to doing the Street Wisdom Walkshop again without my phone.
