Empowering 100 New Graduates to manage their personal growth & wellbeing
The Ask
LSEG hold a two- day Learning and Development programme IGNITE for their new graduate recruits (approx. 100 PAX in both locations) in Bangalore and London annually. Street Wisdom are tasked annually to deliver Walkshops in both locations on the second day of the programme where the focus is on personal development and wellbeing. LSEG were keen that their new graduates took away techniques that would help them manage not only their personal growth and everyday challenges but also their wellbeing.
The Delivery
A Walkshop lightly customised to meet the client need and culture, particularly the relative youth of the participants. The tone was a little more “treasure hunt enabled by tech” than the conventional delivery.
The Walkshop began with an uplifting introduction (15 minutes) from two Street Wisdom facilitators to inspire and engage the group, particularly helping younger participants understand the why and how the Walkshop will unfold. This gained trust leaving participants feeling more confident in immersing themselves fully into the experience. Here we added the option of working in pairs which many participants opted for.
We followed the proven Walkshop structure beginning with Tune Ups (10mins) – tuning the senses of participants up through short themed guided walks. But added the invitation to use smartphones to record moments of insight. Something which the younger participants found a creative aid and stimulus. After the tune up we inserted a playback of ‘discoveries so far’ including smartphone imagery. This adventure of discovery spirit continued through the Quest (30 mins) – during which participants – often in pairs - decided on a question they would like to take to the environment and use their heightened senses to see what answers they arrived at.
The Walkshop ended with a big group sharing back in the plenary with some participants sharing what insight they discovered and how that might answer their question. Again with the younger culture in mind, participants were asked to describe their insights into short ‘instagramable’ messages of three words and these words were shared via Slido as a Wordcloud.
The session ended with helping participants understand how they can incorporate the practise into their daily lives and manage stress and daily challenges as well as their personal and creative growth. Participants were given a link to download the Street Wisdom handbook “Wanderful’ written by founder David Pearl.
The session in Banglore also had an additional 15- minute wellbeing session led by the lead facilitators on other wellbeing techniques that could be useful in life.
The Results
We received a hugely positive response with over 90% of participants finding the experience very useful and inspiring. The energy of the group was lifted from breaking up the confines of the plenary space as well as helping them discover a useful creative tool for wellbeing and creative thinking.
“Street Wisdom was the perfect finale to our two- day leadership event. The energy and clarity participants gained from the facilitated WalkShop helped land learnings from the whole event for our business as well as giving space for personal reflection. Wanderful!”
