It’s easy to get wrapped up in the indulgences of the festive season with a week of cheese, wine and Christmas TV Specials. This year, why not use the break to recuperate and be mindful, to start the new year with some clarity and energy rather than feeling a bit foggy…in body and mind. Here are some ways you can apply the Street Wisdom approach to your festivities:
See the beauty in everything. Don’t let the stress get overwhelming, try to take a step back and see the beauty in everything. In burnt food, a messy house or noisy kids. Just trying to see the best in whatever is going on will bring a sense of calm and a smile.
Mindful mealtimes. Slow right down and be mindful of what you’re eating. It’s easy to eat a lot more than we need just because it’s there. Be mindful of what’s on your plate and savour every bite.
The same goes for your phone. Stop the mindless scrolling and focus your attention on where you are and who you’re with. Enjoy the festivities with those around you, rather than watching others (filtered) festivities through social media.
Get outside. Of course! You’ve watched back to back films and even managed to complete a game of Monopoly. Feeling slight cabin-fever? Get outside, get some fresh air and get moving. You’ll benefit from the change in scenery, burn off a few of those roast potatoes and, most importantly, blow away the cobwebs. If you can’t get your friends and family outside with you then go it alone and have a mindful stroll.
